About the Artist
With a Joint Honours in Fine Arts & Mathematics, and continuing studies in Education, I am a Graphic Artist, Photographer, Educator and Escape Room Writer, passionate about community engagement, belonging, and connecting with art. My professional history includes Software Project Management, Award Winning Escape Room Writer, and Secondary School Educator and Curriculum Leader. In all projects and positions, my focus has always been on collaboration and creating dynamic community experiences. As a professional artist I have developed pieces and projects for organizations, businesses, and individuals, including large scale projects and installations for both the City of Waterloo and City of Kitchener. I work with a variety of traditional media (ie. illustration and sculpture) and I have extensive knowledge of the Adobe Suite (ie. Photoshop & Illustrator), formal design principles, and over 20 years behind the camera focusing on events and community. While my expertise and experience has allowed me to mentor, instruct, and speak to groups of varying sizes, a strong focus is on community development, and engagement and collaboration through community initiatives and opportunities. Key projects include an annual collection of youth photography designed to inspire and showcase the talent of young artists, a collaborative mural with dozens of artists for the 2015 Pan Am Games, and a tile-based project connecting over 15,000 residents of the Waterloo Region during the COVID-19 pandemic. My recent studio work is Multidisciplinary… Exploring everything from illustration and printmaking to design, painting, and photography. In all cases, my work is about synergy and the active process of weaving together a variety of ideas to create powerful mosaics, messages, and moments. Specifically, my exploration of tessellations combines the whimsical elements of shape and pattern as they connect stories, ideas, and communities.
